The goal of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is to rank high in the search engine index for relevant queries. Being on the first page in the number one slot is certainly the goal, but in reality it is difficult to maintain. However, it is important to find your site on either page one or two whenever your relevant keywords are entered into the search bar.
If you present your website to the major search engines (especially Google) as soon as you publish the home page, in a short time, sometimes even within days, you should be able to enter the exact web address into the search bar and find it indexed on the first page.
After awhile, you should be able to find your website (somewhere) whenever you type in your keywords.
Step 1. Go to the Google.com and type your site concept keywords into the search bar, then click Search Google. Does your website show up on the first page.
Step 2. Scroll down the page, if you don’t find your site on that page, click on page two, did you find your website? Repeat this process until you find your site.
Step 3. Make a note of where you found your site indexed. For instance; page one, position #1.
Now, go a step further, type in the other relevant keywords that relate to your site and make note of where you find your website indexed.
Revisit this process at least once a month. If your website is not moving up in the search engine index, then you need to analyze why not. It might be time to call in the experts.
NOTE: While I was promoting one particular website, the first time I did a search I found the site on page 25, #4. A week later I found it on page 13, #10, and a few days later it was on page 10. After we did some tweaking, we eventually saw the website to show up on page one.
