Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about goals for 2012. Last year, early in January 2011, I spent some time thinking about setting some goals for different aspects of my life; Spiritual, Physical, Home, Business. Prior to 2011, every year for at least 20 years, I resolved to NOT make New Years Resolutions. Then last year I started working with a mentor and one of my first assignments was to set some goals for myself.
When it comes to the Spiritual aspect of your life, what improvements would you like to see in that aspect of your life? Are you a church goer? Do you want to start some sort of spiritual study? Where do you want to see yourself spiritually a year from now?
Last year I had a simple goal. I wanted to started attending church on a regular basis, preferably with my husband. And, sure enough, starting in February my husband and I started attending church every Sunday.
This year my Spiritual goal is again–simple. I want to continue going to church AND I would like to read through the entire Bible during the year (I bought “The One Year Bible” to help me stay on track).
When thinking about the Physical aspect of your life, do you need to lose weight? Do you need to start an exercise program? Do you want to eat healthier? What improvements would you like to make for yourself-physically?
Last year when I wrote down my goal of losing some weight and starting an exercise program, I really didn’t think it would happen. However, in June I was diagnosed with Diabetes and high blood pressure, it was a huge wake-up call. The next day I started walking, 17 lbs melted off over the next 6 weeks. Then I went on a diet and lost another 10 lbs… I was amazed!
This year my goal is get off the Diabetes and high blood pressure medicine, so I need to keep walking and lose enough weight to accomplish that goal.
When thinking about your Home – what would you change if you had chance? Do you need a bigger home? Do you want to move to a new location? Or do you need to do some downsizing?
My home goal has always been to live near the ocean, but I know that before we get a chance to do that we are going to have to do some major downsizing. Currently we live in a 1600 sq.ft. house, full to the brim with stuff. Stuff we don’t need and stuff we wouldn’t want to take along with us when we move.
So last year my goal was to downsize that stuff. And we did, we started donating and selling stuff. We’ve still got a long way to go, but we got started. That’s what counts.
This year I want to finish downsizing the stuff; in the cupboards, in the closets, in the sewing room AND we need to clean out the storage facilities. I’ve got yards and yards of decorator fabric to sell – anybody interested?
Finally, what are your Business goals? What do you want to accomplish in 2012? Do you need to increase your income? Do you have a marketing strategy? Do you have an online presence?
Last year my goal was to learn how I could increase my income, and I needed a plan on how to accomplish that task.
In the last 12 months I have developed several tools to accomplish that goal, and I formulated a plan to move forward in that direction.
This year my goal is to set up a Members Only site, provide two FREE training webinars a month AND increase my income.
So, what are your goals for 2012? Have you given any thought to your Spiritual, Physical, Home and Business goals? After determining who your target market is, Goal Setting should be high on the list of Things to Do right now.
